The Fabulous Benefits of Coconut Milk Powder

You open your kitchen cupboard, reach for that ever-ready can of coconut milk and – oh dear, you’re out. Or perhaps the recipe calls for two tablespoons of coconut milk and frankly you’re fed up of waste wallowing at the back of your fridge.

What do you do? That’s where coconut milk powder comes in as the hero to save all. It’s a fantastic store cupboard ingredient in the home, and bulk coconut milk powder ensures cafes, restaurants and manufacturers can bring delicious dairy free recipes to life without drowning in huge amounts of coconut milk in their stores.

We promise that your decision to keep vegan coconut milk powder to hand will transform your use of coconut milk. There are a whole heap of benefits too:

It tastes fantastic

Number 1 reason: it really does taste wonderful. You won’t know that you’ve used coconut milk powder instead of coconut milk. It really does taste the same.

Storage-pros

If you spend your life rejigging your pantry for optimal space-saving and efficiency or because you just fancy yourself as the next Marie Kondo, then coconut milk powder is the solution. Our dairy free coconut milk powder comes in a re-sealable bag which means you can use a little and then keep it stored away securely. It takes less space than cans and you don’t have to use it up within 3 days once opened.

Super convenience

Similarly, we’d dub it a convenience food, especially for vegans who aren’t used to that concept. You can literally grab and go some vegan coconut milk powder for all recipes which call for canned coconut milk. You just mix it up according to the instructions and hey presto, ready to use coconut milk. It’s perfect for everything from smoothies to curries.

Fat control

Coconut milk in a can is pretty variable when it comes to fat content according to brand. Standard coconut milk powder is 65% fat; predominantly healthy medium-chain fatty acids. This is a versatile product which can be used in most home recipes. However, some cafes, restaurants and manufacturers want to offer lower fat foods which use coconut milk. That’s why we’re launching a new low fat 40% coconut milk powder later soon.

It’s good fat

The fat in coconut milk is mostly medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). These are ‘good’ fats which have been shown to aid weight loss. There are a few different theories as to why this is. Some studies show it is because it makes you feel fuller for longer and other studies have found that MCTs increase your insulin sensitivity, which promotes weight loss.

Creaminess without the dairy

The luscious creamy delight of thickened sauces, curries, soups and smoothies meets an obstacle for those following a dairy-free diet. Whether it’s down to allergies and intolerances, or veganism or health reasons, there’s no reason you can’t get that same delectable creaminess without using dairy. The answer is coconut milk powder.

What you see is what you get

There are a few different substitutes for dairy milk including soy, oat, almond and rice. However, it gets a bit trickier to identify which of these options are pure and natural. Many contain preservatives and sweeteners. Our coconut milk powder is nearly all freshly squeezed coconut milk with just a small amount of maltodextrin (all-natural) and corn starch to stop it clumping and ensure it stays nice and fresh.

Tickety-boo immunity

Coconut milk powder is rich in lauric acid. Lauric acid is a goody when it comes to the immune system; studies have shown that it has both anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Lauric acid is found in human breastmilk which many put down to why it is so wonderful for brain development and immunity.

Vitamin and mineral wonder

We tend to associate vitamins and minerals with a rainbow of fruits and veg. Yet the white milk of the coconut, used to make coconut powder, is crammed with various vitamins and minerals. It’s an excellent source of Vitamins C, E, and a delightful number of B vitamins. It’s also got iron, calcium, magnesium, selenium and potassium in it. Wow!

It’s lump-free

Open a can of coconut milk and it is separation-heaven. It can take some mighty intense stirring to eliminate the lumps, which isn’t ideal if you’re adding it to a recipe at the last minute. With coconut powder, it mixes easily into a smooth liquid completely lump-free.

It’s more than a kitchen ingredient

Coconut milk, and ergo coconut milk powder, aren’t confined to the kitchen alone. Its fat content makes it absolutely fabulous for looking after your hair. Made up into a creamy texture, coconut milk powder can be massaged into dry and damaged hair, as well as used to alleviate an itchy scalp. It can even be used as a leave-in conditioner.

Your secret to natural make-up removal

Mixed with two parts coconut or olive oil, you can also use it to remove make-up whilst nourishing your skin. It’s even recommended for those with outbreak or acne-prone skin because of its antibacterial properties. Likewise, it’s moisturising for those with dry skin or eczema.

How do you use coconut milk powder?

Because our coconut milk powder is basically squeezed coconut milk, there’s no faffing or complicated process to turn it back into its liquid form. You simply add hot water and stir. This also means that you are in control of the consistency. Fancy coconut cream? Just add less water. Want a thin milk to make a long and refreshing smoothie? Just add more.

When you’ve used what you need simply pop the packet closed, making it air tight, and then put it back into the cupboard for the next time you need it.
